CFA Hires New Vice President of Public Resources
Sacramento
- California Forestry Association (CFA) President David A.
Bischel is pleased to announce
Mr. Steven A. Brink as vice president of public resources, effective July 11,
2005, filling the post of VP Phil Aune, who will be retiring on July 5th.
Mr. Brink will be responsible for representing CFA’s diversified
membership on federal forest management and environmental issues.
In making his announcement, Mr. Bischel stated, “I am
extremely pleased to have an individual with the professional credentials of Mr.
Brink join the CFA team. He brings
extensive educational credentials, broad professional and managerial experience,
and a dedication to the application of sound forest-management policies and
practices.”
Mr. Brink joins CFA after serving 36 years in a wide variety
of assignments and responsibilities with the USDA Forest Service.
Since January 2002, Steve has been the deputy regional forester for
natural resources in the Alaska Region
based out of Juneau. In this
capacity, he is responsible for the region’s timber sale and other resource
management programs. Steve has
served in a variety of managerial posts at the national, regional and forest
levels including assignments with the California regional office and four
California forests. Steve grew up
in Placerville, CA, graduated from UC Davis in civil engineering, and has had
graduate-level coursework in public administration, logging engineering and
executive development.
While
working in California, he ran the region’s first ever Forest Engineering
Institute at Humboldt State University; was a logging systems specialist on the
Stanislaus National Forest; and a civil engineer on the Six Rivers, Inyo and El
Dorado National Forests. At the
request of the regional forester, Steve recently led a review on the San
Bernardino National Forest to assess the vegetative/ecological conditions
resulting from prolonged drought and the wildfires of 2003.
Also,
at the request of the USDA Undersecretary for Natural Resources, Steve
participated in an evaluation of the cost and complex implementation of the 2000
Planning Regulations; and recently completed an assignment at the national
headquarters assisting in formulation of the Forest Service 2007 budget request.
Steve
has an excellent working relationship with the Alaskan congressional delegation,
who play significant natural resource and environmental policy roles in
Washington D.C.
Mr. Brink stated, “I am extremely pleased and honored to
become a part of such a well respected organization. The issues are huge! Never
before in the history of federal forestry have we had so many policy decisions
on complex forest-management issues. I will do everything possible to support and encourage
responsible federal forest and environmental policies.”
