CFA Announces New Vice President of Legislative Affairs

Sacramento - California Forestry Association (CFA) President David A. Bischel announced today that Mr. Brian White has been named CFA vice president of legislative affairs, effective January 1, 2007.  In this capacity, Mr. White will be CFA’s chief legislative advocate and responsible for representing CFA’s diversified membership in the development and implementation of legislative strategies and tactics.

In making his announcement, Mr. Bischel stated, “I am extremely pleased to have an individual with the credentials of Mr. White join the CFA team.  Brian is currently the assistant director for legislative affairs for the California Department of Water Resources, and brings a wide variety of experience and understanding of the legislative process and the budget process to this position.  Moreover, he is an experienced negotiator and advocate.”

Mr. White holds a B.A. degree in political science from Morehouse College, graduating Cum Laude.  Brian joins CFA after serving nearly a dozen years in various public and private sector organizations with increasing legislative responsibilities including the California Department of Water Resources, the California Building Industry Association and the California Chamber of Commerce.

Brian served on Governor-elect Schwarzenegger’s Environmental Transition Team in 2003, as well as the California Water Plan Update Advisory Committee and the California Floodplain Management Task Force between 2002 and 2004.

Mr. White stated, “I am extremely pleased and honored to become a part of such a well-respected organization.  The issues facing forest management in California are complex and diverse.  I will do everything possible to support and encourage responsible development and implementation of California’s forest policies.”
